University of Northern Iowa

At the University of Northern Iowa, Alpha Phi promotes awareness of women’s heart disease and raises funds through two large events. Our week-long Fall Philanthropy event includes a Jail-and-Bail event, and is called, Keep the Beat Week. In the Spring we hold our Red Dress Gala. We also raise awareness of women’s heart disease during February’s National Heart Month as well as on Wear Red Day on the first Friday of each February.

Keep the Beat Week is an entire week in September dedicated to raising awareness for women’s heart health. Alpha Phi puts on various events including a jumprope-athon, workout class, Jail and Bail, and wear red day. Our most popular event from the week is our Jail and Bail, or Cardiac Arrest. We lock up prominent faces around the UNI campus and in order for them to “get out of jail,” they must get their “bail amount” donated!
